Brandy Goes to the Hospital
Read MoreBrandy waits for me to cue her to step out of the trailer
Brandy returning from the Equine Hospital at Cornell where she was evaluated for a mysterious cough. It turned out to be a respiratory problem, but very early stage so we will manage it with soaked or steamed hay and having her spend the absolute minimum time in the barn. Even when she shook with fear, she did not forget her manners or her curiosity. As she wobbled into the exam room, already sedated, she headed right for the (very expensive) equipment, ready to play with it! I intercepted her in the nick of time. Brandy was terrified of trailers when she came to us, and with good reason. She had been loaded only by a "trainer" whose method was to make himself scarier than the trailer. It took time, patience, and lots of Investigative Behavior to get Brandy to load for me. (Details in my book.) But she now loads and rides calmly.
